Two-speed pump is designed for applications having little or no load at first and requires increasing force on the addition of loads. When there is no load, the pump runs in its first stage which has a higher flow rate. When the pump detects a load, it changes to the second stage which takes fewer handle strokes and decreases the flow rate to generate greater pressure and transfer the weight.
