The NPT connection is based on thread deformation and have a metal-to-metal sealing design where the threads of the connectors themselves form together. Whereas, the UNF (Unified National Fine) threads on ports have fine spacing that makes them less prone to loosen when vibrating.
When air contaminates a hydraulic fluid, the pump's inlet cavitation, aeration or foaming can happen. Aeration degrades the hydraulic fluid, resulting in damage to the components of the system (due to loss of lubrication), thereby causing burning and overheating of the seals.
