Frequently Asked Questions

How to install a grommet?

  • Find the knockout.
  • Punch out the knockout from the inside of the box with a screwdriver and hammer so that the metal ring falls outside the box.
  • Make sure that the rubber grommet from the outside of the box is properly seated in the hole.
  • Pass the cords inside from the back of the box. Pull the cord head back 2 to 3 inches after it is in place to ensure the weather-resistant 'star bursts' are facing the outside of the box.
  • Never expose mating plug points to the environment by pushing the cord from inside the box.

What electrical safety precautions must one take during the installation of the grommet?

  • Inserting an extension cord through the hole without a grommet is not recommended.
  • Use only three-wire extension cords with all three prongs intact.
  • Remove the round grounding prong.
  • The extension cord must be connected to a grounded 120V GFCI protected outlet. If a GFCI outlet is not available, use an extension cord with built-in GFCI protection.
  • Before using an extension cord, inspect the insulation and plugs. If the cord is worn or damaged, do not use it.
  • Before moving or transporting the storage chest, remove the extension cord from the Power Pass hole.

How do you install the lock system?

  • Using a 1/2-inch socket or wrench, remove the padlock tab.
  • Set the latch rod to the 'LATCHED' position.
  • Install the 5/16 x 3/4 inch carriage bolt into the appropriate hole in the padlock tab, insert the padlock shackle and secure to the lockbox with a locking nut.
  • Open the cover and slide the latch rod into the 'OPEN' position before locking the padlock.
  • Close the cover and set the latch rod to 'LATCHED'. Lock the padlock and try to open the cover by moving the latch rod to the 'OPEN' position.
