The condensate pump system must be checked for proper operation regularly. The frequency will vary depending on the environment in which the unit is used, but it should be at least once every three months.
The float and float components can accumulate debris over time which can clog the system and prevent it from triggering the float switch and draining the water. The float and its components are also subject to wear and tear over time which can contribute to condensate pump failure.
In a working HVAC system, the condensate pump will get activated when the water level in the drip pan reaches the required level. If it overflows, it means the condensate pump did not turn on as it should, which could mean it's faulty or broken.
