Working Mechanism

  • Select a poly or steel drum having a 30 to 55-gallon liquid capacity and 2-inch large & 3/4 inch small bungholes.
  • Thread the Aerosolv unit into the 2-inch bunghole and the combination filter into the 3/4 inch bunghole. Ground the unit after selecting a suitable receptacle.
  • Insert an aerosol can (nozzle end downwards) into the unit's housing sleeve resting on the internal gasket after removing the cap & nozzle from the can.
  • Lower the sliding top plate & firmly engage it against the plastic sleeve. Tighten the lock knob present on the unit's side and then tighten the sealing knob for depressing the aerosol can into the unit's internal gasket.
  • Push down the attached handle and hold it in place for the can to release the initial pressure. Raise the handle slowly & then depress it immediately to control the rate of pressure and content disposal from the aerosol can. Drain the can contents into the drum (about 20 seconds) to avoid backpressure.
  • After discharging the content completely, turn the sealing knob counter-clockwise (3 times), unlock the lock knob and lift the can to the brim of the Aerosolv housing. Discharge any residual fluid into the unit. Remove the can from the housing, lower the sliding top plate onto the plastic sleeve and seal the collection drum.
  • Monitor the colorimetric indicator continuously to determine the saturation point of the carbon canister. When the indicator indicates the saturation of carbon, replace the carbon canister after discontinuing further puncturings. Check the Mile Marker chart to determine the timings for routine maintenance & filter changes.
  • When the operation is complete, the unit can be locked using a padlock to avoid unauthorised use.

Frequently Asked Questions

How to determine if the drum collection receptacle is full?

  • Select a ruler / dowel and a rag.
  • Lower the ruler into the container through the collection receptacle till the ruler's top is a one-half inch above the receptacle bung hole's rim.
  • Raise the ruler & inspect it.
  • If the liquid in the container touches the ruler when submerged, secure the drum container and stop using it since it is more than 70% full. Use the rag to wipe off the ruler.
  • If the ruler did not touch the liquid level, continue puncturing aerosol cans and operating normally. Repeat earlier steps after every 500 cans to check the liquid level.

What are the steps for maintenance of the aerosol can disposal system?

  • Remove the unit from the drum and inspect the gasket & seal to prevent damages or contamination.
  • Clean the unit thoroughly inside & out.
  • Apply 3 wraps of Teflon tape over the 2 inch threads and attach it to the collection drum for re-installation.

What are the safety instructions while operating this Justrite 28230 aerosol can disposal system?

  • Wear safety goggles while operating this Justrite 28230 Aerosolv 7000 super aerosol can recycling system.
  • Operate the unit in a ventilated space or outdoors.
  • Do not use pesticides, herbicides, adhesives or corrosive fluids having pH less than 2 or greater than 12.5.
  • Always ground the drum using an anti-static wire.
