Working Mechanism

  • Square D molded case circuit breaker continuously monitors the flow of electric current through the circuit it is protecting.
  • Under normal conditions, where the current is within the safe range, the internal components of the circuit breaker remain in their normal positions.
  • The circuit remains closed, allowing electricity to flow through it uninterrupted.
  • If the circuit breaker senses that the current has exceeded safe limits due to an overload (too many devices connected) or a fault (a short circuit), its internal sensors quickly detect this abnormal condition.
  • When an overload or fault is detected, the circuit breaker's tripping mechanism is activated, opening the circuit by moving its internal contacts.
  • This action physically breaks the electrical connection and stops the flow of current.

Frequently Asked Questions

How do I select the right MCCB rating?

To select the appropriate MCCB rating, consider the maximum current the circuit will carry, the starting currents of connected equipment and the type of load. Choose a rating slightly higher than the anticipated current to prevent nuisance tripping.

Can this MCCB be reset after tripping?

Yes, this Square D MCCB can be manually reset after tripping. Once the fault is resolved, you can reset the MCCB by toggling its lever.

Is this Square D moulded case circuit breaker maintenance-free?

This Square D MCCB is virtually maintenance-free. It requires only periodic inspections and testing to ensure their proper functionality and reliability over time.
