A single-acting hydraulic cylinder has a single port. The hydraulic fluid enters at this point and drives the plunger outward in one direction. There are two ports in a double-acting cylinder. One for the cylinder to be retracted and the other for the hydraulic fluid to enter and extend the plunger.
